Communities First: what lessons need to be learned?

In July the Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee published its interim report into Communities First– the Welsh Government’s flagship anti-poverty programme. The interim report contained 11 recommendations for the Welsh Government. The Committee’s final report, which included greater detail on the evidence it had considered, was published in October. The Assembly will debate both reports and the Welsh Government’s response to the recommendations in plenary on Wednesday 25 October.

Human rights, Brexit and Wales

The Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee has been exploring the impact of leaving the EU on human rights in Wales. While compared to agriculture or structural funds, human rights might not seem to be the most important issue to discuss during Brexit in relation to Wales, the Committee discovered a number of important issues, from legal protection to third sector funding.

Provisional local government settlement 2018-19 published

Following the Welsh Government outline draft Budget 2018-19 (released on Tuesday 3 October 2017) the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government has today published the Provisional Local Government Settlement 2018-19, this outlines funding for each of Wales’ twenty-two local authorities.
