The European Commission has proposed legislation to coordinate EU Member States’ efforts to combat the threats posed by invasive alien species. There are currently over 1,500 invasive alien species in Europe and they are growing in number, costing at least €12.5 Billion per year through costs of control/eradication, hazards to human health, damage to infrastructure and yield losses in agriculture.
